Things I WISH I Knew #1

1. How do you avoid getting flu?  Twice in three months just isn’t fair. Which leads me into point 2…

***

2. How do you get rid of flu?? Especially when you’re pregnant and can basically take nothing and already have a lower lung capacity. *insert frustrated pregnant woman rant*

***

3. Does ‘better late than never’ count in the garden??? Literally just got my potatoes in – will they just be late earlies (that’s fine!) or have I ruined their lives forever?? And we won’t mention the tomatoes bravely surviving in their pots…

***

4. Will it get easier?! (Lying is fine here!) Surely it gets easier once you’ve done the major relandscaping, built up soil levels, have significantly improved your fitness levels, and have a less vague idea of what you’re doing (and a more informed plan)??

5. How on EARTH did the pioneer women survive? I’m really struggling with this pregnancy. Did they just have to survive – like, you don’t work, you don’t eat, so you work even if your back and hips are painful?

6. Is homemade dairy-free yoghurt possible? I’ve so far had two failed batches. The first had gelatin in it so set but the probiotics didn’t work so it didn’t taste “yoghurty” (and was basically a non-sweetened coconut blancmange). The second, using a yoghurt maker, had a lovely tangy taste but was still as pourable as milk. Anyone got any suggestions/recipes?

7. Why didn’t we start this project when the kids were old enough to be slave labour…help…?

***

8. Are there any ways to keep a toddler involved but still get things done? Georgie, bless her, adores helping in the garden. But buckets of soil take a long time to move when a toddler helps carry them and tomato plants don’t massively like being planted with their leaves in the soil and roots in the air (writing that made me think of the scene in “The Magician’s Nephew” where the animals “plant” Uncle Andrew. *giggle*). So yes, any tips on how to include her but have a working garden?

9. Why, oh why, oh why, did God create bindweed? *weeps*

10. Is there anything more fun than wheelbarrow rides (Georgie had her first one this week) and why did I ever stop begging my dad for them?
